The Unsettling Reason We Often Trust the ‘Other’ Man More Than the One We Plan to Marry

Since I graduated from college, Brady and I have been in a committed relationship.

He is a real companion. Brady and I are originally from the same nation and hometown. The same first language was taught to us. We can relate to one another and have a lot in common.

We know it’s simple on that level because our backgrounds are comparable. I’m not sure if I love him, but he loves me. He cares about me, which is why we have been together for so long.

Changing it is unthinkable to me. He works in AI, is a few years older, and is doing well. Everything about our connection is like being in a youthful engagement or something, and he wants to marry me.

My lover, Marcus, and I first connected through a mutual friend a few years ago. He, my partner Brady, and I are all from Canada.

We are all of the same race and ethnicity. Marcus, who is my age and unmarried, and I get to see him multiple times a month. In between our get-togethers, we text a lot.

If my boyfriend is visiting his family or traveling for work, he will come to my apartment when we meet. I’m delighted to see this other man because I truly like him.

He is not at all like the man I am devoted to. He has a vibrant personality, is eccentric, gregarious, and open to trying new things.

He is not interested in becoming a married couple and settling down with me. Brady is the one who encourages commitment and discusses the future, even though he isn’t as philanthropic as Marcus.

I look to Marcus for the excitement and fun because of this. It’s simple and there are no ties. I go straight to Marcus for help if something goes wrong. My best friend is the only person who is aware of it, and she simply listens to me without passing judgment.

If Brady found out, he would be upset and might end our relationship. For now, it’s alright because he doesn’t know anything. I occasionally question whether the danger is worthwhile, and the answer is no. I absolutely want to be with Brady, and I do want to marry him.

However, there are some issues that are unsolvable. Or I have no idea how to solve problems. When Brady and I are having problems, I keep going to Marcus. Brady can be cruel, so I don’t feel bad about it.

At that point, I’ll seek solace from Marcus. Brady’s tendency to lie about insignificant things is a problem for me. It’s a persistent issue.

He will pretend to be with pals before acting in a different way. He always does that, and I’m not sure why, even if it might not seem like much.

Who is he and what does it mean? I can’t trust him because of this. Because Brady has irritated me, I don’t feel bad about turning to Marcus. The odd thing is that I don’t think Marcus would lie about anything because I trust him.

I’m the one lying in our situation. He is aware that I have a partner, but he doesn’t really understand how committed we are. He will text me to inquire about Brady’s whereabouts or whether he is traveling, and he is constantly attempting to see me more.

Marcus makes it seem casual, like I’m just seeing someone else, but that isn’t the reality. When it’s impossible to avoid it, I have simultaneous sex with both men.

I make an effort not to worry about it. They are both incredibly skilled at sex, but their approaches differ. I think about Marcus while I’m not with him.

Even though I don’t want to, I could give him up, but I can’t give up Brady. That must be taking place.

When I’m with Marcus, I’m constantly on alert and a little tense. Even though I know my objective is to pursue a long-term relationship with Brady, I feel like I’m playing a game.

His family wants us to be together, but I’m not sure about mine. I understand that Brady has given up something for me as well. We have the same acquaintances, our families are acquainted, and everything works well and is secure.

In addition, Brady is there to support me; when I get emotional, he helps me to relax. Since Marcus is a means for me to get through without being disturbed, I’m not sure how it will turn out.

With the exception of our occasional arguments every week or two, Brady is mostly fine. It’s good for a while, and then the fighting starts.

Instead of being in love with Marcus, I am in love with Brady. It’s a different, weaker kind of love with him. When it comes to our conversations and sex, I’m more daring with him.

It’s a more independent connection for me, and I know that I’m more open. I’m not at all reliant on him. Brady and I appear to rely on one another on a daily basis.

There are moments when I question whether this is karma. If Brady finds out and I feel really scared, will he do the same to me? I tell myself that I should end my relationship with Marcus, but since Brady is unaware of it and I can easily end it if I so want, I continue.

I believe Marcus would also go on if we stopped. He is currently aware that he is not the most significant person in my life, and he accepts this.

Except for the times when he asks if Brady is around in a tone that suggests jealousy. That’s how things are going, and I’m okay having a partner and a lover for the time being.
